First Session: The Inner Journey
This presentation explores how familiar characters provide clues for our own
quests. We will follow Little Red Riding Hood on the path toward the old woman of the forest. The symbols in the tale can help us move toward personal awakening and strengthen our sense of interconnection. Dr. Young will draw on his work with Joseph Campbell to investigate what we can learn from the mythic imagination.
Second session: Wisdom Tales We Live By
This session presents personal applications of initiatory tales. We will revisit
Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz to ponder the gifts of the mythic quest. The format is storytelling with discussion of key elements, such as hearing a calling, and serving worthy goals. In a spirit of play, we will follow each stage of the adventure to find hidden riches.
Third session: The Magic of Storytelling
There is an enchantment in being told a story. Fairy tales reflect major events in our lives. We will use The Talking Eggs, a traditional yarn from the bayous, to explore telling a tale well, opening up key images, and framing discussions effectively.
